After coming to hyderabad i had a lot of free time on weekends, so started with this restaurant scene.
The set was modelled in maya, mental ray shaders were added to the objects with respective textures on different objects in the scene. Mental ray camera was used in the scene for better realism in the output.
Started to place a lot of lights to balance the interior lighting in the scene. Had to place additional lights to fill the dark regions in the scene.
Used mental ray with final gather for rendering. I normally dont prefer global illumination for rendering as its very costly and takes away a lot of time in rendering.
I then broke it into different passes and then composited in photoshop and added some glows to mimic real world camera glows.
